Betting structures
10 January 2008This is a simple term that deals with how players can bet in a game. There are two types of games, the low limit games and the high limit games. Here is the betting structure in Texas Hold Em.
The Fixed Limit or Structure Limit: This type of betting means that the amounts of the bets are being set by the dealer. The games are called for example a $20/$40. This would be amount you can bet. The pre flop or the flop is the first number called. Then on the river which is the fifth community card is played the amount of the bet is double and they represents the second number you see. In each betting round there is a 4 bets per player. The player during the round can re raise and the re raised again and the get raised one more time.
The Spread Limit. This is the betting structure where the players can bet in a specific range amounts. If the game is called a $1/$5 game then the player can bet anywhere between $ 1 and $ 5 dollars on the pre flop and the flop.
The Pot Limit: this is part of the structure that a player can bet any amount that falls between the big blind and the size of the pot on any betting round. If there are two amounts used in regards to the pot limit such as a $ 5/$10 limit. Then the amount of the of the best are just the costs of the blinds except the fact that the minimum bet will be the bigger of the two numbers called. When a game has a Pot Limit the first person to be allowed to bet will be the person who can bet 3 or 4 times the size of the pot, this could depend because it is usually only allowed in pre flop. Check with the dealer to make that that rule applies.
The Half Pot Limit: This betting structure is mostly played in Europe but has been played here as well. This structure is similar to the Pot Limit betting we just discussed but the cost of the big blind is only half up to the Pot Limit.
No Limit: This is the betting structure that lets you bet any amount that is between the cost of the big blind and the amount of money that is on the table on any betting round. When there are amounts that are uses to reference a no limit game like $ 1/$5 no limit, the amounts of the cost of the blinds and they really have nothing to do with the amount that the players can bet. But the minimum bet will be the larger of the tow numbers.
These may sound confusing to new players; Texas Hold Em is a game that should be watched several times before jumping in. To get into a game before knowing and understanding the rules would disrupt the other players.
