Having a Pre Flop Strategy

10 January 2008

It is very important as a player that you understand how to bet but the initial pre flop bet is very important. Most players do have a strategy for the pre flop; we can help you with some pointers that can help you.

First thing to determine is the amount of players. If you are in a game with 10 people it is much more likely that some one on the 10 people has a strong hand in the pocket than someone otherwise would in a game with less people. When you are playing a game with a lot of people you will have to be more careful because the odds are that another player’s pre flop hand will fit the flop will be better than yours. The more people play the more competition there is.

Another thing to look for in a pre flop is how aggressive the players are. It would make a better estimation after you have played a few hands with these players that you can see how they bet. If you see a player who is raising every hand pre flop then you will have to play the game a bit tighter. A bit of advice would be to let that player win the blind and then get him when you have a stronger hand ion the pocket of the pre flop.

Your bankroll makes a difference as well. For example, if you have $ 2 left then you will want to play very carefully and only choose one hand to bet on. You also want to have as many people in on that hand as possible because the more people that play the bigger the pot is. Before the flop is dealt you want to be all in. The more money you have allows you the player to take bigger chances but you have to consider your bank roll.

Your position in the game is also a factor. The players who have late positions in the game often have the know how to change the size of the pot much more than players in the early game positions. This theory could not be truer in the true pre flop.

What may matter the most in your pre flop strategy. Each player has a different playing style but most players tend to play the pre flop more aggressively. They will go for more pots and they don’t mind so much losing a hand pr two because they want the pre flop pot to grow, they can afford to do this in the late position of the game. But other players tend to be more careful when they play. They actually will win a hand or two. But that all depends on how you play and on how you take notice on the others are playing.

Assess your cards from the start; your ideal pocket is an Ace and an Ace. You also can hope for cards that are connected like a six and seven. You can check out specifics on the hands online and see what the experts recommend.
